Most bow thruster failures come from the power side: a tired battery, undersized or corroded cable, a failing contactor (solenoid) or a tripped thermal cut-out. Mechanical issues like a sheared pin or damaged prop come next. We diagnose, repair and upgrade thrusters from all major brands.

Common problems we fix
| Symptom | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Click, no spin | Low battery voltage, bad contactor, loose or corroded main connection |
| Motor spins, no thrust | Sheared drive pin or damaged prop |
| Weak thrust | Voltage drop from long or undersized cable, aging battery, fouled prop or tunnel |
| Works, then quits | Thermal cut-out from long runs; battery sagging under load |
| Panel dead | Control fuse, main switch, harness or panel fault |

Upgrades worth doing
- Dedicated battery. If your thruster runs off a long cable from the engine room, moving to a dedicated battery near the thruster is often the single biggest improvement in thrust.
- Lithium. Lighter and holds voltage under load. Check compatibility first: lithium vs AGM.
- Proportional control. Variable thrust instead of on/off. Smoother, quieter and easier on a crowded fairway.
- Wireless remote. Dock from the bow or the cockpit.
- Bigger thruster. If yours was undersized from day one, we can often upsize in the existing tunnel diameter.
Questions people ask
Do you service thrusters you did not install?
Yes. We work on all major brands regardless of who installed them.
Should I repair or replace an old thruster?
If the motor and gearleg are sound, repairing the power side is usually the better value. If the unit is old, parts are scarce or it was undersized, a replacement often costs less over time. We give you both options.
